Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior UC and VoIP Engineer to take ownership of our Cisco-based, on-premises Unified Communications environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, stability, scalability, and ongoing improvement of our voice, collaboration and Contact Center infrastructure across the organization. This role is hands-on and strategic, requiring both deep technical experience and the ability to plan and execute migrations, upgrades, and cross-datacenter continuity projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Design & Scaling:
- Design and maintain the architecture of our Cisco UC platform, including CUCM, UCCX, Unity Connection, Expressway, IM&P, and CUBE.
- Plan and execute UC migrations across datacenters and business units, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum reliability.
- Lead initiatives to scale the voice environment in alignment with company growth and future needs.
Operations & Maintenance:
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the entire on-premises voice system, ensuring availability, redundancy, and performance.
- Manage dial plans, call routing, SIP trunking, voicemail systems, and IVR logic across multiple servers and applications.
- Handle upgrades, patching, and version alignment for all UC components.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Monitor system performance, service health, and capacity utilization for all UC components.
- Identify and resolve complex voice-related issues, including call quality, connectivity, and system behavior.
- Collaborate with network and datacenter teams to maintain end-to-end service delivery standards.
Security & Governance:
- Apply security best practices to all voice systems, including encryption, access control, and certificate management.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, compliance requirements, and business continuity plans.
Documentation & Improvement:
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for configurations, call flows, numbering plans, and migration processes.
- Continuously assess and improve UC operations, proposing enhancements in architecture, resiliency, and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco UC platforms in a production, on-premises enterprise environment.
- Deep experience with:
- Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM)
- Cisco Unity Connection
- Cisco Contact Center Express (UCCX)
- Expressway, IM&P, and CUBE gateways
- Strong understanding of:
- SIP, RTP, dial plans, media resource configuration
- Reporting, Call events
- Logging and Monitoring, RTMT
Preferred:
- Certifications such as CCNP Collaboration or equivalent real-world expertise.
- Experience planning and executing datacenter migrations or multi-site deployments.
- Familiarity with disaster recovery, high availability, and voice network segmentation.
