Job Description

Alibaba Group is looking for an experienced and strategic Legal Manager to lead legal operations and provide high-quality counsel to senior management and business teams. This role is responsible for managing legal risk, ensuring compliance, and enabling business initiatives across multiple jurisdictions. The Legal Manager will act as a trusted advisor to leadership, oversee external counsel, and contribute to shaping company-wide legal strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage legal support for business units and group functions.
  • Oversee drafting, reviewing, and negotiating high-value and complex contracts.
  • Advise management on corporate, commercial, regulatory, and labor law issues.
  • Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance for new business ventures, partnerships, and investments.
  • Manage dispute resolution, litigation, and regulatory investigations.
  • Coordinate with external counsel and manage legal budgets effectively.
  • Ensure corporate governance compliance, including board and shareholder matters.
  • Monitor evolving laws, regulations, and market practices to mitigate risks.
  • Mentor and guide junior members of the legal team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in law (master’s degree, LLM, or bar admission is strongly preferred).
  • 4+ years of professional legal experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong expertise in corporate, commercial, and regulatory law; M&A and labor law experience is an advantage.
  • Proven track record of advising senior leadership and managing complex legal matters.
  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership abilities.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written); additional languages are a plus.
